The aim of this conference is to convene teachers from all levels of education and together to explore the challenges of both teaching and learning classics in Wales.

9:30 - 10:00 Evelien Bracke (Swansea University): ‘Classics in Wales: update on research and practice’

 

10:00 - 11:00 SHARE with School (Cardiff University) and the Egypt Centre: ‘How to teach through object handling’ small group sessions

 

11:00 - 11:15 Break: coffee and tea

 

11:15 - 12:00 Mair Lloyd (Open University): ‘Living Latin in Practice’

 

12:00- 12:45 Anne Wright: ‘Teaching ancient Greek with the Gorilla’

 

12:45 - 13:45 Lunch break

 

13.45 - 14.15 30-minute small group working groups (you will be invited to choose 3):

 

14.15 - 14.45 Starting up a Classics hub (Evelien Bracke, Swansea)

 

14.45 - 15.15 Student recruitment and retention (TBC)

 

                    Ancient language teaching: approaches and resources/Teaching Classics through the medium of                       Welsh (TBC)

 

                    ICT in the Classics classroom (Steve Hunt, Cambridge)

 

15:15 - 15:30 Break: coffee and tea

 

15:30 - 16:00 Working Groups: final session

 

16:00 - 17:00 Round Table Discussion and award ceremony
