El Departamento de Estudios Hebreos y Arameos (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) se complace en anunciar la celebración del congreso internacional “Disputation Poems in the Near East and Beyond. Ancient and Modern,” que tendrá lugar en el Colegio Mayor Teresa de Jesús (Avenida Séneca, 12), Madrid, durante los días 12 y 13 de julio de 2017. Los temas a tratar cubren desde disputas sumerias (principios del segundo milenio a. C.) hasta debates árabes y neo-arameos contemporáneos, e incluyen también disputas de la Antigüedad en acadio, arameo y hebreo y debates medievales en árabe, hebreo, latín y siríaco.


The Department of Hebrew and Aramaic Studies (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) is pleased to announce the international conference “Disputation Poems in the Near East and Beyond. Ancient and Modern,” which will take place in Colegio Mayor Teresa de Jesús (Avenida Séneca, 12), Madrid, on 12–13 July 2017. Topics range from Sumerian (early second millennium BCE) to modern Arabic and Neo-Aramaic disputations, including ancient disputations in Akkadian, Aramaic and Hebrew and Medieval debates in Arabic, Hebrew, Latin, and Syriac.

INSCRIPCIÓN/REGISTRATION/REGISTRAZIONE:

Nos complace anunciar que se ofrecerán 8 becas para la asistencia al congreso. Las becas cubrirán el alojamiento y la manutención en el Colegio Mayor Teresa de Jesús (Madrid) durante los días 11–14 de julio, así como las tasas de asistencia. No se cubrirán, sin embargo, gastos de desplazamiento.


Se solicita a aquellos interesados en conseguir una beca que envíen sus solicitudes a enrique.jimenez@ucm.es antes del viernes 2 de junio de 2017. Las solicitudes deberán incluir:


1. Un currículo abreviado (máx. 1 pág.)

2. Una breve memoria que especifique las razones por las que desean asistir al congreso. La memoria puede estar escrita en alemán, español, francés, inglés o italiano (máx. 1 pág.)

3. Pasaporte o documento de identidad escaneado, en formato PDF.


Las solicitudes serán evaluadas por un comité que comunicará su resolución a los solicitantes el miércoles 7 de junio.

La posibilidad de conceder un crédito ETCS está en tramitación. Si fuera aprobada, los participantes interesados podrán obtenerlo asistiendo a las ponencias y escribiendo una memoria de 5 páginas en la semana siguiente al congreso.

We are pleased to announce that 8 scholarships for attendance will be offered. The scholarships will cover bed and board at the conference venue in Madrid for 11–14 of July, as well as the conference fees. We are, however, unable to cover travel fees. Students or scholars interested in attending are kindly asked to submit their applications for a fellowship to mailto:enrique.jimenez@ucm.es by Friday, 2nd of June, at the latest. Applications should include: 1. A résumé (1 page max.) 2. A letter of motivation, stating the reasons why they wish to attend. The letter may be written in English, French, German, Italian, or Spanish (250 words max.) 3. A scan of their passports Applications will be evaluated by a committee, which will communicate its decision by Wednesday 7th of June. Permission to grant 1 ETCS credit is in the pipeline. If granted, students from the EU will be able to obtain 1 ETCS credit by attending the conference and submitting a 5-page paper in the week following it.
