History PhD students of the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Eastern Piedmont “Amedeo Avogadro” organize a Seminar with the purpose of encouraging the academic debate on specific topics dealing with Ancient, Medieval, Modern and Contemporary History. The Seminar is an opportunity to strenghten our Academic Community by sharing worries and questions in a constructive meeting.

Speakers will give a presentation on themes related to the Historical Method main issues and problems, such as historical narrative deformation, following Marc Bloch’s analysis as it has been developed within the opera “The Historian’s Craft”: • Process of Damnatio memoriae • Untrue or misleading use of tests and testimonials • Conscious or unconscious false narrative of the past • Misrepresentation of the historical evidences • Public uses of History Each meeting will be divided into three presentations (30 minutes maximum per speech) with a following debate; one speech will be held by a PhD student of the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Eastern Piedmont and the other two by PhD Students from other Universities kindly invited to partecipate. The Seminar will be held at the Department of Humanistic Studies in Vercelli from 4th October 2017 following the schedule below: 1. Wednesday, October 4th (Ancient History) 2. Wednesday, October 11th (Medieval History) 3. Wednesday, October 18th (Modern History) 4. Wednesday, October 25th (Contemporary History) We are looking for presenters. PhD students and young researchers interested are warmly invited to submit to our contacts a proposal including a brief CV, the name of the University in where they study, title of presentation together with a short abstract (around 5000 characters, spaces included) within July 28th. Selected speakers will be contacted within Friday September 15th.
