Simon Malloch (Nottingham), who is writing commentary on Tacitus, Stephen Todd (Manchester), who has written and is writing commentary on Lysias and Nicolas Wiater (St Andrews) who is writing commentary on Dionysius of Halicarnassus, offer examples of what commentary can and should do for the historian.
