In what ways does taking space seriously change our perceptions of the past? Christy Constantakopoulou (Birkbeck), Matthew Nicholls (Reading) and Amy Russell (Durham) offer insights from their own work.

9.30 – 12 noon (with a break for coffee) Historical commentary – what do we need and how do we get it? Simon Malloch (Nottingham), who is writing commentary on Tacitus, Stephen Todd (Manchester), who has written and is writing commentary on Lysias and Nicolas Wiater (St Andrews) who is writing commentary on Dionysius of Halicarnassus, offer examples of what commentary can and should do for the historian.
