Interdisciplinary Conference Islands, Islandness, and Insularity - 03-04-05/10/2018, Cagliari (Italy

We are pleased to announce you the programme of the International and Interdisciplinary Conference Islands, Islandness, and Insularity, organised by the Research Group of the Project “Islands” and the Department of Philology, Literature and Linguistics (University of Cagliari), to be held in Cagliari on October 3–5, 2018.

The “Islands” Research Group - financed by the Fondazione di Sardegna - involves scholars from various disciplinary areas: literary and cultural studies, philology, semiotics, linguistics, history, and geography. It considers the islandness/insularity as geographical condition, but also as a historical and cultural construction that has been formed and transformed by languages, as a form of identification that is either created or negated in texts, and as a spatial metaphor that allows more general, existential, and political conditions to be interpreted.
